The LAIPLA is seeking (1) host companies and (2) sponsors to support its 2017 Diversity Fellows.
The Diversity Fellowship program was started in 2015 to increase the number of IP practitioners from underrepresented backgrounds. The Fellowship places a law student in a legal department of a public or private organization for 10 weeks during the summer. Each selected recipient of the Diversity Fellowship receives a stipend of $5,000, and gains an invaluable opportunity to build contacts with IP practitioners and experience in the field.
In its inaugural year, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP graciously sponsored one Diversity Fellow at Honda Patents & Technologies North America in Torrance, CA. In 2016, Sheppard, Mullin, Richter Hampton LLP and Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP each sponsored an LAIPLA Diversity Fellow. The fellows were hosted by two global corporations, Edwards Lifesciences Corporation in Irvine, California and Harman International Industries, Inc. in Northridge, California.
